John Roby new CEO of CPX Energy

January 14, 2022 - CPX Energy, LLC (CPX), a privately held oil and gas company, announced that as of January 1, 2022, John C. Roby has joined the company as Chief Executive Officer.  After many successful iterations leading CPX, Tom Powell will transition as planned from CEO to Chairman of the Board.  The focus and strategy for CPX going forward will be to continue making great returns on all investments.  

John brings over 15 years of oil and gas and investing experience to CPX.  Prior to joining CPX Energy, John was the founder and CEO of Teal Natural Resources, a private equity-backed E&P company focused on the South Texas Eagle Ford and Verde Royalty Partners, a mineral and ORRI acquisition company.  Prior to that, John was the CFO for Titanium Exploration Partners.  Additionally, John gained extensive investment experience with Congruent Investment Partners and Highland Capital Management.  John began his career as an engineer for Occidental Petroleum Corporation. John serves on the Board of Directors of ChandlerSpeaks and is an Advisory Member of Origin Minerals.

Additionally, John has been the recipient of multiple awards including Oil & Gas Investor – Forty under 40 and EY Entrepreneur of the Year Finalist Southwest.  John holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, with honors, from the University of Texas and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
