Tom Powell

Tom is the Founder and Managing Partner of CPX Energy, an energy investment firm focused on building long-term value through disciplined upstream development, infrastructure investment, and strategic asset monetization.

Since founding CPX Energy in 2008, Tom has successfully developed and exited multiple energy platforms, delivering consistent, risk-adjusted returns to investors across four CPX-branded ventures.

CPX’s portfolio has included acres across the Williston, Permian, and Anadarko basins. 

Prior to founding CPX Energy, Tom served as Chief Executive Officer of Thomas Development Corporation from 1996 to 2006. During his tenure, he led a multi-office organization that acquired over 640,000 acres across major U.S. basins on behalf of industry leaders including Marathon, Anadarko, WPX/Devon, and Schlumberger.

In addition to CPX Energy, Tom actively manages a diversified family investment portfolio across the energy value chain:

• Upstream: Eagle Ford interests with EOG and Marathon, along with conventional natural gas assets in Louisiana
• Midstream & Infrastructure: Anchor co-investor in a Louisiana energy terminal on the Mississippi River and shareholder in a private gas midstream company
• Energy Real Estate: Anchor investor in data center-related real estate developments
• Energy Services: Board Manager and anchor investor in a Permian Basin-focused drilling and completions company
