Our Team

Clay Powell is a shareholder in CPX Energy and serves as General Counsel.  In this capacity, Clay is responsible for all legal evolution and execution at the company.  Prior to CPX Energy, Clay served as an Assistant District Attorney for Dallas County.  Previously, Clay worked with CP Exploration II (CP-2) in Fort Worth, handling investment-level diligence and executing acquisitions throughout Texas.  He began his career with Thomas Development Corporation in Pittsburgh, developing a natural gas asset for a public E&P company operating in the Marcellus Shale.

Clay is a licensed attorney with the State Bar of Texas. He holds a B.A. in Economics from Texas A&M University and a J.D. cum laude from the Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law, where he served as an editor of the law review.
